Does green go with maroon and orange?

At Virginia Tech, it’s starting to look that way, with multiple sustainability initiatives expanded upon or beginning for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The “Share a Coke” campaign came to Blacksburg August 27 and 28 to give personalized Coke cans to Tech students, but they’re leaving their mark on campus in sustainability as well. Coca Cola cups and lids in Tech’s dining centers are now biodegradable and compostable, cutting down on waste.

Dining Services recently began selling reusable water bottles in participating dining centers (including West End Market, Owens Food Court, and Hokie Grill & Co.), which can be presented to dining center cashiers for free water or  $0.10 off fountain drinks. You can purchase a water bottle with Flex dollars or cash.

Sick of foam to-go containers? Now, students can easily use and return reusable to-go containers to the Ozzi machine in West End Market, returning used containers to the machine and regaining a token for another container. It’s $3 cash or $6 Flex to begin using reusable to-go containers.

No matter who you are, if you’re a Hokie, you’ve made this walk. And there’s nothing like the inaugural crossing of the Drillfield come fall semester. Welcome to 2014–15, Virginia Tech. It’s going to be real.

No matter who you are, if you’re a Hokie, you’ve made this walk. And there’s nothing like the inaugural crossing of the Drillfield come fall semester. Welcome to 2014–15, Virginia Tech. It’s going to be real.

In honor of your arrival to campus next week, we’ve dedicated this Throwback Thursday to student move-in! Moving into campus during the ‘90s looked pretty fly.

Things that makes Virginia Tech awesome: Hokie football, dining awards, massive amounts of successful and innovative research, horse on a treadmill, and YOU (and probably some other stuff like stellar academics, a burgeoning mix of art and engineering, and a culture of service). So, why not put your awesome where Virginia Tech’s mouth is?

Virginia Tech students now have the chance to tweet from the university’s @im_a_hokie Twitter handle for a full week. Think that’s something you’d be good at? Sign up here.
